In this webinar, we provide a practical overview for designing and modeling Low Pressure Carburization (LPC) processes using DANTE’s VCarb software and ANSYS. We will start by creating an LPC schedule for a given gear geometry and case depth using VCarb, exploring how alloy composition, geometry, surface carbon targets, and case depth requirements shape the final recipe. Then we will work through a step-by-step setup of an LPC model in ANSYS using the developed recipe, covering meshing strategies, boundary conditions, carburization behavior, and how to export the resulting carbon profiles for use in other heat treatment models. The session concludes with post-processing the developed ANSYS models, demonstrating how to evaluate carbon distributions, thermal histories, microstructural evolution, distortion, and residual stress from heat treatment. By the end, participants will understand how to efficiently design LPC processes and accurately predict the effects of heat treatment through simulation.
