This animation shows a press-quenching simulation of a simplified bevel gear blank. The blank is heated in a furnace to transform the steel to austenite, then the blank is quenched using the simulated press-quench tooling to help control the final shape. The contours show temperature, axial stress, austenite volume fraction, and martensite volume fraction. The illustration on the right shows the tooling of the press quench and the load direction of the dies. For this example, the critical dimension was the inner diameter of the gear.
